<description>&lt;div&gt;On November 8 we heard from several coaches at Virginia Wesleyan College.&amp;nbsp; Dave Macedo, men's basketball; Stephany Dunmyer, women's basketball; Mat Littleton, men's indoor track; Krista Littleton, women's indoor track.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;On November 22 we heard from Pete Zell, baseball coach at Salem HS, who told us many stories about youth and HS baseball in the area.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;On December 13 we had our annual Christmas luncheon.&amp;nbsp; A good time was had as we had a gift exchange and donated food to the foodbank.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

<description>&lt;div&gt;On Oct 11th we heard from Rich Radford, sports writer 
with The Virginian Pilot.&amp;nbsp; Rich covers ODU football and he gave a spirited 
talk about his sports writing career and covering ODU football.&amp;nbsp; There were 
many questions from the members about all aspects of the team and the outlook 
for the upcoming games.&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;div&gt;On Oct 25th we heard from one of our newest members, 
Morgan Lang, who is also the Associate Executive Director of the Hampton Roads 
Sports Commission.&amp;nbsp; She talked about what the commission is doing and what 
is coming up for them in the coming months.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

with the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.&amp;nbsp; She talked to us 
about the upcoming Coaches vs. Cancer breakfast involving all the local men's 
and women's collegiate coaches.&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;On the 27th, we had our annual picnic for members and 
their families at Red Wing Golf Clubhouse.&amp;nbsp; A good time was had by all with 
BBQ, games and good fellowship.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

Virginia Wesleyan College.&amp;nbsp; They both gave us an overview of their 
respective sports and athletics in general at VWC.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

<title>Crying Towel 2011</title>

<description>On August 9th we had a very entertaining meeting with a 
the 11 high school football coaches from Virginia Beach public high 
schools.&amp;nbsp; Robert Jackson of Salem High School walked away with the 
cherished &amp;quot;crying towel&amp;quot; after he refuted all claims from the other coaches that 
he has one of the best teams in the state.&amp;nbsp; Thanks to Coach Jackson and the 
other football coaches for their entertaining talks.....Darnell Moore from 
Bayside, Ray Gatlin from Princess Anne, Sam Scarborough from First Colonial, 
Chris DeWitt from Kellam, Chris Scott from Ocean Lakes, Tommy Reamon from 
Landstown, John Kepple from Tallwood, Jamaine Paddyfoot from Kempsville, Shawn 
Wilson from Green Run and Bill Stachelski from Cox.</description>

<description>&lt;div&gt;On July 26th we heard from Jack Ankerson, Executive 
Director of the Hampton Roads Sports Commission and the veritable &amp;quot;voice of 
Tidewater.&amp;quot;&amp;nbsp; He talked to us about his early days in the American 
Basketball Association, with the San Antonio Spurs and the Virginia 
Squires.&amp;nbsp; He also discussed the Norfolk Tides and ODU sports.&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;On July 24th members of the club and their families 
enjoyed a nice evening at the ballpark seeing the Norfolk Tides play the 
Gwinnett Braves.&amp;nbsp; It started out as a very hot evening, but when the wind 
shifted, the temperature dropped 20 degrees and it was a very pleasant 
evening.&amp;nbsp; The Tides ended up winning in the bottom of the 10th inning on a 
walk off home run.&lt;/div&gt;

<description>&lt;div&gt;On June 14, we heard from John Castleberry, Vice 
President of Sales and Marketing for the Virginia Destroyers UFL team.&amp;nbsp; He 
talked to us in great length about the trials and tribulations involved in the 
start up of the franchise.&amp;nbsp; He also talked about his various past jobs 
locally in the sporting scene.
&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;On June 28, we had a mystery speaker (filling in for a 
late cancellation), Bill Swertfeger, who told us about his college summer job of 
running &amp;quot;Swert's Ski School&amp;quot; back in the late 50's.&amp;nbsp; His exploits had just 
been highlighted in that Sunday's Beacon.&amp;nbsp; Many thanks to Bill for filling 
in at the last minute.&lt;/div&gt;</description>
